On Dec. 7, the No. 3 main pier of Chongqing Yuxiang high speed Millzhai Wujiang Special Bridge, which was invested by China Railway Construction Kunlun Group Chongqing Investment Company and constructed by China Railway Construction Port and Maritime Bureau, was successfully topped out, marking that the Millzhai Wujiang Special Bridge entered the superstructure construction stage. The bridge pier is 216 meters high, which is the highest pier of the short tower cable-stayed bridge in Asia.

Muzhai Wujiang Special Bridge is the control project of Yuxiang Highway. The total length of the bridge is 708 meters, the main bridge is 602 meters long, two-way four lanes, the bridge width is 27.5 meters. The bridge area is located in the "V"-shaped deep river valley of Wujiang River, and the bridge has 2 main piers with a span of 296 meters, ranking among the top bridges of the same type in Asia. "The topping of the No. 3 main pier is equivalent to 72 floors high, one-way elevator ride of about 8 minutes. A total of about 31,000 cubic meters of concrete was poured, and about 5,600 tons of steel bars were installed, about 50 days ahead of the nodal construction plan". Facing the problems of large volume concrete construction, working at height and lifting construction, the project department adopts "Internet+" technology to build a real-time video monitoring system to realize informationization and visualization of safety management. The project department insists on the construction concept of "Craftsmanship to achieve far, strive for national excellence", and makes improvements and innovations in construction technology, process, work method and raw material selection, which effectively ensures the construction quality of the project. In order to implement the concept of environmental protection construction, the project took up as little land as possible and reduced the damage to the original landform through the selection of technical solutions, and timely re-greened the slopes and other land to reduce soil erosion; the construction waste was handled centrally and uniformly, effectively ensuring the ecological environment of the Wujiang River basin and achieving ecological and environmental protection construction.

The main pier of No.3 of the Wuchang Bridge in Muzhai is located on the steep slope of the river side, with cliffs above and the Wuchang River below, making the construction extremely difficult. The project adopted the way of building steel trestle bridge and steel platform and setting active and passive protection net, which effectively opened the construction work surface. Since the end of December last year, the first section of concrete was poured on the No.3 main pier, and it took 338 days and nights to successfully complete the topping construction task.

It is reported that the bridge is expected to be completed in April 2024 and achieve the target of opening to traffic in July. Facing the severe and complicated situation, the project team grasped the epidemic prevention and control with one hand and the safety production with the other hand, and adopted closed-loop construction management, so the bridge construction steadily advanced. The successful topping of the No.3 main pier further boosted the morale of all employees involved in the construction and laid a solid foundation for the subsequent construction.
